Happy Holidays

NOBODY TELLS THIS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE BEGINNERS.

I wish someone told me. All of us do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste.

But there is this gap.

For the first few years you make stuff, it's just not that good. It's trying to be good, it has potential, but its not,but your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer and your taste is why your work disappoints you.

A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit.

Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn't have this special thing that we want it to have.

We all go through this.

And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work.

Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one task.

It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap.

And your work will be as good as your ambitions.

And I took longer to figure out how to do this that anyone I have met.

It's gonna take a while. It's normal to take awhile.

You have gotta fight your way through.

Its been a good good year. Granted I am still sitting in my office typing away as I listen to some Joyous Celebration while I wind up. I have so much to thank God for.

When I started blogging it was just something I did out of fun but I have met so many people and even found myself in the fashion section of several newspapers. I remember once my mother shouting on top of her voice for me to come down stairs and see a picture of myself in the paper. If I got on the paper then there is something I must be doing right.

Of rainy days

It may be Friday but a somber one at it. African has lost a true icon a selfless man who gave up his formidable youth for his nation South Africa.

Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela your spirit lives on.

Well I must say the week has been rather busy as we are trying to wind up matters 2013
                                                            and move on to 2014.

Today I have been featured on the Aura by Annesosophie Achera  Law meets Style and I am truly humble. It was a really nice piece so have a read.

It's been rather cold and nothing like a maxi to take it all away. I have worn this skirt here and this time I decided to pair it up with a simple black polo neck, my brown belt and some nude heels.

Party Pastels

It's December baby and I can smell the festivities in the air.

Welcome home all you summer bunnies..time to party like rock stars.

The past week has been nothing less than a whirlwind of activities and drama to say the least. Most of you know that I am very cynical and most times radical about this thing called love. Well I was slowly weaning out of that hell hole when the inevitable happened.

I think some people as my mother would say "do not know a good thing even if it hit them on the face." The events swelling up to this post have made me conclude that some individuals thrive in misery. They are so used to being angry, annoyed and miserable that when a good thing comes along they do everything in there power to spoil it. They need Jesus or whomever they consider divine in their lives. This life is too fleeting to endure  pain that is brought about by lack of mere self control.

Ladies in Gentlemen nobody likes being taken for granted. Nobody likes being treated like a fool, used, abused and then discarded like trash. Any normal human being once they discover your playing them they go into self preservation mode and I assure you shall receive the full wrath of God ask the Egyptians.

I beseech you brethren do right by others because due to the harsh economic times the days of a thief are no longer forty but twelve, consider yourselves duly warned.

In other fashionable news, Friday is such a lovely day to have a wedding. I attended one and I can tell you it was a small and intimate and so fabulous it moved me to the realization that I have never pictured myself in a wedding dress...yes that's just me!

I wore this dress the first time here and I think this time I nailed it. It was a bit chilly so I put on a small vintage  coat that I got from my Aunt's old clothes to bring out the florals on this beautiful dress. I paired it with some nude sandals  to go which are giving some serious competition to my red ones!

Dr. Ofweneke made the perfect M.C as he is super hilarious and says all the embarrassing things you are thinking. I loved him!

Happy Birthday Mama Goose!

"Mother dear he broke my heart!!!"

"Alaka darling...men don't know good genes even if it hit them on the face. I laughed so hard as she continued to say...."You had better thank me you turned out so beautiful....now on to the next blind man." heheheheh....

Ladies and Gentlemen today is day 336 of 2013 and it is my mother's birthday.

Many of you have fond childhood memories of how your mother was the good cop between your parents. Well let me tell you mine was Lieutenant General Commander Mother Dearest and we were the "enemy" because we have been on the receiving end of the wrath until recently when treaties were signed read growing up a bunch.

I recall one time we came up with the bright idea to swim in the Roto tank that was outside in the compound. So I rallied the troops and being the first born they all listened to my "ingenious idea" and they quickly put on their swimming costumes and into the tank we went.

The tank had a small opening at the top and was carrying a capacity of about 5000 liters of water  and about two to three kids were inside the tank at any one time. Never did it occur to us that we could have drowned, we were after all children and we lived for the thrill.

She caught us in the act and we were summoned. We approached the bedroom each carrying their tool of punishment as a deathly soundtrack played in the background. No words were exchanged and no explanations offered. Lets just say we  encountered a near death experience by the cane and for almost an hour she thrashed the foolishness out of us sending us to bed with not even a glass of water to soothe your tiny beat up bodies.

This woman spared no rod and has brought up a family that lives to adore her.

Words cannot even begin to describe what you mean to us Mother dearest. You are our rock, your prayers have shielded many a danger, your guidance and protection has led us in the right direction, your military style of discipline has kept us from straying many a times and your love has kept us sane in this cruel cruel world.

Mother Goose we celebrate and honor you always and forever.

Now can Daddy buy you a Range Rover so that we can get to drive the mighty mean machine
