People this week has really gone by so fast what!
Hallo everybody! I hope your keeping well. Something really interesting happened to me yesterday.
My Paps asked me to buy for him combs. Well not just any combs but some thing called a "scratcher" Its a plastic brush like (thinger majiger) that looks like a lollipop and it has a mirror on one side and plastic bristles on the other. So I decided to dedicate my lunch break to finding this "scratcher thingy" least I get the "You know how much I have invested in your school fees and you cant even buy me a go-darn 'scratcher' line from my Paps" (pan intended).
I head out to a " bustation". It is a semi thrift market down town Nairobi ( has some really cool bargains by the way) and a place where you can catch the bus to wherever! Its the typical market where the your haggling for goods at such raised voices because there is some sort of church service going on at the same time and the singing is so loud and off key you want to pull out your hair.
Eventually I find this guy with the a bucket full of "scratchers" and I bend down and try and choose a color that is not pink or purple hahahaha!!! ( I can see my Paps' face as I hand him his pink/purple/red scratcher) hahahahahaha (* evil laugh*). Just as I am about to reach for the blue scartcher there is this big shadow cast over the bucket full of scratchers and I notice a pair of shoes next to me.
So I look up and there is this gentleman. He could have been in his mid forties in a nice black suit. He says "Hallo madame," I totally ignore him. He then says quietly "I just wanted to say your very very beautiful." I start moving away from the scratcher stand hoping that he will go away. He then walks away and then in his "insanity" he shouts very loudly above all the out of tune praise and worship and the preaching going on in the market and points at me and says " Yes you madame I am talking to you..(usinilenge) translation (stop ignoring me) Your very very beautiful!"
The vendor at the "scratcher" stand and the guys sitting around watched in amusement. I was very terrified at this "Alehandoro de amour or is it Uche" type of behavior. Trust me this things only happen in Nigeria where you walking in the street and a man shouts " Modam you-a vere beautiful" (insert Nigerian accent).
Do not get me wrong I was very flattered and my vanity scale was bursting out of its seams huh! But I have been mugged before and trust me I am extra super cautious when I am walking in the streets of Nairobi. So when this man started pulling a "Diego" on me going all " your so beautiful" I freaked out because he could have been singling me out of the crowd and putting a bulls eye on my head then when I take the corner I meet with some gun trotting teenage boys who want to rob me dry, (Sio mimi) translation ( not me) not this time.
On the flip side vane little ol' me had a very nice afternoon....as those words keep ringing in my head " YOUR BEAUTIFUL!!!" Ooooooh by the way I bought the "scratcher" and a comb for my Paps and he was very happy. The things we do for love (sigh)..... People watch out for people who look like they are acting a Spanish Soap Opera they could be thieves.
Moving on swiftly. I took this pics over the weekend when the sun was out. I paired this purple top with some chinos to get a simple chilled out look as I had some errands to run with my mother and sister. I finished the look up with an Ankara print clutch bag which is very versatile and can be worn with anything and some printed flats. Well mixing prints can be very tricky but if you find a solid base of colors in which you can lay down you "mixture" so to speak it can be very pretty. I love love this "chain" piece because it reminds me of when we were kids and we could swing on the gate and the same thing that was used to close up the gate is now my fave fashion statement....who would have known!
